Made from 100% American materials, we combined our high performance multi-hit capable Alumina Oxide strike face with a lightweight Dyneema UHMWPE backer to create affordable lightweight level 4 plates.

Shed Weight, Not Dollars

RMA 1165 Lightweight Level 4 plates are the ultimate expression of our mission; to make the world’s best body armor available for all Americans. Typically, manufacturers save weight by using lighter weight ceramics like silicon and boron. RMA does that too, but it comes at a cost. Their 1192 series is a fantastic lightweight level 4 plate, but is more on the expensive side. Boron/Silicon carbide is more expensive to make, and thus ultimately results in a more expensive plate.

RMA wondered if there were other ways to save weight while keeping costs down. Legendary Dyneema UHMWPE was the answer. This high strength material works as a lightweight backer to their famous RMA alumina strike face. While this requires a bit more labor and machine time, it cuts about 1.5 lbs from the weight of their best-selling 1155 plate. You can expect both high performance and low weight from their new 1165 plates. And your wallet? It will stay a little heavier at such an affordable price.
